Winner of the 2018 Thomas DiCorleto Service Award
"I am so excited to inform you that Suzanne Schweitzer has been selected as this year's winner of the Thomas DiCorleto Service Award by the Farmington Valley Directors.
The Thomas DiCorleto Outstanding Service Award was established in the spring of 2010, in honor of Granby’s esteemed pupil services director who passed away in January of that year. The Pupil Services Directors of the Farmington Valley created the award to recognize the wisdom and guidance that Tom had provided them (and many of us) in his 30+ years of service.
The award travels between the towns of the Farmington Valley, and each year the directors come together with nominations from their school districts to determine the candidate who embodies the passion and commitment to children that Tom demonstrated throughout his lifetime. All staff members are eligible to be nominated.
Winner of the 2007-2008 Connecticut Distinguished Service Award
Presented by the CT Association of School Psychologists for exemplary service and contributions to the rights, welfare, education and mental health of children and youth.

Additional thoughts from colleagues
When asked about Suzanne, the 7th Grade Resource teacher writes:
"Suzanne has been instrumental working with parent/guardians/families on supporting them with questions and concerns about some of our most involved and neediest of students. She provides a genuine, calm, compassionate approach for both student and family. She naturally knows how to communicate important information to families by advocating for students with a sensitive approach; providing support when these conversations can be very uncomfortable and difficult to 'digest'. She continues to consult on a regular basis with special education case managers to prove an understanding of her evaluations and how to 'better' support these students."
The Special Education Intensive Case Manager for Grades 6-8 writes:
"When I think of Suzanne, many words come to mind...knowledgeable, approachable, invested, professional, genuine, compassionate, dedicated, and altruistic are just a few. She is also attentive to the small details, able to establish connections with the students and their, sometimes difficult to reach, families. She is persistent, and always considers the students' best interests. Suzanne has completed home visits, and has worked closely with case managers to ensure that there are positive outcomes for students, despite the obstacles that are present. While she is quiet in her approach, her leadership qualities are those that allow others to feel comfortable working with her and seeking her advice and opinions.
Suzanne has been able to establish meaningful relationships with parents by her gentle probing, genuine interactions and the support that she provides case managers, students and families through her interviews and counseling sessions."
